Winter tyres to help keep you moving in the snow
Winter tyres at this time of year can certainly help keep you safe. During the winter weather driving conditions can certainly become a lot more challenging.
The tread on a winter tyre has more natural rubber than a summer tyre. Therefore the winter tyre does not harden when cold, keeping the tyre more flexible in conditions below 7c. This helps give your tyres more grip in ice and snow and on wet roads especially in cold conditions.
Winter tyres however are not suitable for using all year round. Summer are better for performance when the roads are dry and temperatures higher.
We have seen in previous winters, people getting stuck struggling to get out of their driveways and estates. Roads have ended up in chaos in the Uk due to poor weather conditions and many cars have resulted in getting stranded.
Although in the UK there is no legal requirement to fit winter tyres. Drivers are more likely to have an accident during the winter months from October to March. Therefore it is certainly a good idea to fit winter tyres during this period.
Winter tyres also reduce braking distances quite a lot in snow and ice. Also maintaining a better grip in snow, ice and wet conditions.
